Grammar Chic Encourages Holiday Job Searches-A True Season of Potential

December 04 11:04 2017
The holidays can be an ideal time for job seekers to get ahead in their job search; Grammar Chic shares why and encourages job seekers to take advantage of this exciting time of year.

Many people see the end of the year as a time to wind down their job search and take a break until the New Year when they can get a fresh start. After all, there are family obligations, project deadlines, and holiday festivities to tend to. However, December can actually be a great time to push ahead with searching and applying for a new job. Grammar Chic explains why job seekers shouldn’t ease up on their efforts during December.

“December holds so much opportunity,” says Amanda Clark, CEO of Grammar Chic. “It’s a perfect time to mingle with family, friends, and professionals who may be able to provide insight on job openings or put in a good word. Furthermore, many companies are scrambling to fill open positions before the new year to meet hiring and budget expectations.”

Competition may be less fierce over the holidays because more people have hit pause on their job search, Clark adds. Employers often receive fewer applications for open positions but are still looking to fill these roles. They do not necessarily know if they will have the same allotment come the new year and want to go into it with a full staff.

If business is slow, employers may also have more time to review resumes and schedule interviews. Candidates may also be more flexible with their availability, which is a win-win. Waiting until after January 1 can mean increased competition because candidates are more aggressive about upholding resolutions to find a new job and have jumpstarted their search after taking some time off.

“Even if job seekers find fewer openings they’re interested in, they can still remain active with their job search by making it a point to volunteer, network, and build connections,” says Clark. “They can also polish up their resume with updated information about their accomplishments over the past year so that it’s ready to go and only requires minor tweaking to align with job openings.”

Finding volunteer opportunities that relate to employment interests and can build transferable skills is beneficial. It connects candidates with individuals they may not have otherwise met, but who could become resources for future jobs. Networking at parties can do the same and open more doors. Volunteering can also provide more experience to add to a resume, and employers look favorably upon those who give back and are involved in the community.

“There are many reasons to keep pushing ahead with your job search come December, whether that means actively applying for open positions, or putting out feelers that could lead to job opportunities,” says Clark. “It’s also a great time to make sure your resume is up-to-date and ready-to-go for when those opportunities arise. If you know someone who is job seeking this holiday season, giving them the gift of a resume package can be the perfect way to support them in their efforts and boost their confidence. Indeed, a Grammar Chic gift card could be the perfect gift.”
